Christian book review by Mary Katherine May of QualityMusicandBooks.com.
The most important element of a book's content is that what the author sets out to say is said. Personal opinion, if the book is inspirational, if some part of it is helpful in life or for spiritual growth is important yet at the same time subjective to the reader's needs.
Keep It Shut by Karen Ehman is another book about the power of words said on hearer's and speaker's lives as well as testimony to the world about Godly life. Taming the tongue is essential to living a Christian life of virtue.
Karen Ehman right on the cover tells the reader what is going to be learned and in the title itself says what so many of us do not do well: Keep it shut. Be silent. Speak right or don't speak at all. Karen is going to tell Christians what to say, how to say it, and when to say nothing at all.
What to say.
When to say it.
When to say nothing at all.
To accomplish her goals, Karen uses actual experiences in her life including those of the type that most of us would never tell anyone and only God knows, Bible stories and Scripture. She gives examples of how to speak in many typical situations every believer has. The book is well organized with pertinent headings and lists that the reader may want to note and go back to when needed.
Some of the topics that I found interesting were Christian speech etiquette on the internet, prayer requests that are really gossip, good speech in groups, how to handle group situations when speech is inappropriate, and what is the real root of harmful and inappropriate speech. s
