The book will fit nicely into most purses, and the cover color and art are soft-- it can be given to a friend or loved one wrapped up, or by just adding ribbon!

J. Otis Ledbetter has written an exceptional little book called In the Secret Place for God. It is a place to go and be alone with God and think, a shelter from the problems of life, a place to make decisions, a time to truly hear what God has to say to you and you only.

My first secret place was a pine tree in northern Minnesota where I would climb up and sit on a branch just to think. I was a young teen at the time, and I liked the idea of being close to my family where I could hear and see what was going on as though from a distance. Now my place is an antique bed—where again I must climb up to get in. The mattress is cushy-soft and the springs squeak, and God and I come together spiritually in a very special way.

From the very first word I was captured into Pastor Ledbetter’s story, as he told of how there was a little room where no one else would go except him in the church his father pastored. I can tell you as a former church musician that the children of clergy and workers can end up spending a lot of time there.

In this brief book, only 89 pages in length, is a good clear laying out of the importance of having a place to go and be alone with God, how to use discernment in life changes, when to take a problem to your secret place and when to share it with someone, and how Satan can play a role in undermining assurance and comfort. The book ends with specific Scripture to think upon when you close the door on the world and retreat within your safe harbor.

The fact of the matter is that if you are not anywhere near where your secret place is located, having this book along and reading it and using the Bible verses can be a help in retreating within as though you and God were the only two around.

The book will easily fit into most purses, a briefcase, computer bag or backpack. It is for teenagers and adults. It is a wonderful gift to give for a confirmation, adult baptism, graduation, or on a visit to someone who is troubled in any way. The cover is warm and inviting in muted sage greens, and is suitable for both men and women.

J. Otis Ledbetter lives in Clovis, California. He is the senior pastor of Sonrise Church and the cofounder of the Heritage Builders Association, a ministry of Focus on the Family. He has authored six books.

The movie Another Perfect Stranger is a riveting movie! This movie is also good because of the way they perceived Jesus, and the way they perceived the Bible of not being just a "rule book" as some people have called it.

It is based on the book, A Day with a Perfect Stranger, written by David Gregory. The movie is a sequal to the movie, "Dinner with the Perfect Stranger," when Nikki Cominsky meets a stranger for dinner, who is actually Jesus. Sarah Cominsky, Nikki's daughter, thought her mom was crazy when she claimed to have had eaten dinner with Jesus Christ ten years before! Her mother and father then became extremely strong Christians.

Sarah had never really believed in God, but then she meets this man on an airplane and he starts to make her think, "Could there actually be a God out there who cares about me?" But little did she know that she was talking with the same Jesus Christ that her mom had dinner with ten years ago. Will she come to God or forget everything this man has told her? Watch the movie to see what happens next!

Christa: I like this movie because of the way it makes you think about God in a new way, of Him being close to
you and having a close and personal relationship with Jesus. God loves and cares for us so much he would never want something bad happen to you. No matter how many times you have made a mistake or you think that He couldn't love you because of all your mistakes. That just means when you do come to God you will have a big testimony to give to bring more people to God!

In this episode, they are commited to helping in the building of the cathedral, just as the previous generation of church mice in their family did. When the workers would get sleepy, the brothers and sisters of Ambrose would do somersaults in front of the workers to keep them alert.

Ambrose wished to do something special to help William, the Master Builder. What could he do? The little mouse thought and thought, and then one day opportunity presented itself.

With rich, brightly colored illustrations created by Katalin Szegedi, Margo Sorenson creates a story that will show children no one is to small to do their part, and that no job is too small to be important. The story also demonstrates how church life and service can aid in strengthening family relationships.

I must admit that as much as I appreciate the fabulous illustrations, I found the story line a little on the weak side. Yet, I am not a child between the ages of four and ten. The story is not so long as to make reading the entire book in one sitting a challenge for younger children. I think that children will get involved in the dilemma of how to come up with something that will be helpful to others, and that they will relate to Ambrose as a tiny mouse trying to be helpful, as children often feel small also.

Let Them Eat Cake is an inspirational and enjoyable read. Among other little surprises was discovering that they included some recipes involved in the story. There was fun and romance, but there was also a serious storyline that dealt with issues pertinent to college grads anywhere. Lots of people have studied a major they liked, but then have a hard time finding where they fit in. It is also a book about finding your faith, trusting in God, and following your dreams. It's a book that anyone could enjoy.
